Proud

Hello friends!  Today is blog hop day with Operation Write Home!  I am so thrilled to be a part of it and love to support this wonderful organization!  Here's the sketch I chose -
Now, I'll keep the rest of this post short because I know you have a lot of other blogs to visit today!  :)
When I heard about the blog hop and saw the new Circle of Honor set from Paper Smooches, I just had to have it!  Even better, proceeds from the sale of this set benefits Operation Write Home!  I started off with some patterned papers from Bo Bunny and some glitter tape from American Crafts (glitter that won't flake off...these tapes are brilliant!)  I stamped the eagle and colored him with my Copics and stamped the sentiment in the lower right.

So, all of you who stuck with me this far are about to be rewarded...:)  In honor of my 3 year blogiversary this month, I will send a brand new Circle of Honor set to one of you!  Just leave a comment telling me why Memorial Day is special to you (and I'd love it if you also wanted to follow me but it isn't requred) here by midnight Monday 5/28, and I'll post the winner sometime on Tuesday!

Thanks for visiting!

Supplies:  Stamps (Paper Smooches), Cardstock - Real Red, Whisper White (SU!), Brads (SU!), Ink - Chocolate Chip (SU!), foam squares, Glitter Tape (American Crafts), DP (Bo Bunny), Copic Markers, Circle Die (Spellbinders), Cuttlebug

  1. Love the whimsical stamp set! Very fun. Memorial Day means a lot to me the older I get. I'm so appreciative of the men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedoms. My heart goes out to the families who have sacrificed so much in the loss of their loved one who paid that ultimate price. May God bless them and comfort them.

  3. Glitter tape--I've never heard of such a delight. Thanks for the tip. This card is darling. Memorial Day has become very important to me because I am mom of two soldiers. I can't imagine the loss of either of them and my heart goes out to those families who have faced this ultimate sacrifice.

  4. Thank you for supporting the troops today with your wonderful, fun and cute card. I just adore that eagle! I don't have this set and would absolutely love it! Mememorial Day is special for me as I remember my dad and grandfathers, for their service as well as having just a bit of extra time to reflect and thank all those that are currently serving and have served in the past. I'm thankful to live in a free country and hopeful that it will stay free for my boys because of the service women and men!

Memorial day means a lot to me as my father, uncle, and FIL served this country to ensure our freedoms are never lost! We need to honor all those who serve and let them know they're never forgotten!

  11. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it can be easy to forget just how lucky we are to live in a free and democratic society. Our freedom comes at a cost, though and life would be very different if it weren't for the men and women who sacrifice their safety, and for many, ultimately their lives. Memorial Day is a special time to reflect on those who have given their lives not only for their own family's freedom but for the freedom of all American citizens.

Thank you for sharing a great card and I'm with you - I'm very proud to be an American!

  15. Hi Jennifer. I've seen this stamp set used 2x now in this hop and I love it. That little eagle lights up the card.
I grew up in the decade following WWII. My father, who was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, would get up early, meet up with other community veterans and they would spend the day going from cemetary to cemetary placing flags on all military graves and then shooting a 21 gun salute. It was a always a day of honoring the lives of those men and women. To me this is the time to reflect, remember and respect those who gave so much for freedom.

  16. Great card...love this image. I find that we often take for granted the life we live but Memorial day reminds us all that it is not something that is just given . It was through the sacrifice of many that we are able to live as we do today. Thank you to the troops.

  17. What a wonderful Patriotic card you have created and shared with us today ~ thank you.

Memorial Day is something that we celebrate every day.. remembering and honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in laying down their lives for our freedom.

Last summer I took my kids to Washington D.C. before we PCS'd from NC to TX.. and going to the WWII monument, there at the waters edge, looking around.. it is very humbling when you think of the magnitude of the lives forever changed because of the sacrifices made.

If you ever get a chance to go to D.C. I highly recommend visiting Arlington National Cemetary, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the WWII memorial. Sitting here typing that brings back the feelings and brings tears to my eyes because I remember when we got to the Vietnam Veterans wall I was on the phone with my dad. My dad served in Vietnam and lost a good friend there. Years ago I had requested a pencil shading of his friends name that they sent to him.. but I wanted to be able to find his name while my dad was on the phone and take a picture of it to share with him.

Thank you to all who have given their lives for others while serving this great nation of ours.

    blessings ~ Pam

    *sorry for the novel

Memorial Day is truly a time of reflection and gratitude for me, as I have had friends and family who have served, one who still does today. I am humbly honored to know of OWH.

  19. Cute card! I love the depth that the pp gives! Memorial Day helps me remember those who have given so much for our country and those who are now serving. I also like to remember the families at home who are "serving" as well and waiting anxiously for their loved ones to return. My brother, husband and two grandsons have served so I know how they feel.

  23. Great card! Thanks for supporting our troops. Easy question...my dad was in the service and never missed a Memorial Day service. He taught us when we were quite young about duty and sacrifice and patriotism.

  24. I adore this card! That stamp set is SUPER. :) Memorial Day means a lot to me; my Dad served in Vietnam and I think it really changed him. He's always instilled in me the importance of remembering and supporting our troops and their families. Now it's my turn to take my daughters to Monday's ceremony and talk to them about the sacrifices others have made for us.

  26. So cute! I really need to get that eagle! Coincidentally, I used some BoBunny Liberty paper for one of my cards today.

Memorial Day has always been important to me, because my dad, who served in WWII would take us to the cemetery each year after our town parade. (We've since placed flags on graves on Memorial Day.) The holiday became more emotional Nov 6th, 1967, when a dear friend and neighbor was killed in combat and received a Navy Cross for heroism. And, having two nephews doing multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan really brought the meaning of the day home.

  27. Memorial Day is important to me because it was important to my Grandpa. He loved our country and was pround to serve in as a submariner through 3 wars. I am grateful for his sacrifice and the love of country that he taught to all of us grandkids.

  30. Jen,

I see we both chose to use the same piece of Bo Bunny paper. Great minds...! :)

Memorial Day has a special meaning for us because my father-in-law served in World War II and my uncles served in Vietnam. I love that this hop reminds so many of the meaning of Memorial Day.

  31. Your card is so cute - I really like the direction of the stripes on the background panel and that little eagle is such a little character.

For me, Memorial Day is so special because my parents were from the WWII era. My dad was a career Navy man and my Mom was a WAVE during the war. My father-in-law was also in the military being career Air Force. Now my son will be leaving for basic training in the Air Force at the end of August this year. Being around the military all of my life I know how difficult the job can be for families, so it is really meaningful to me to honor our service men and women.

My gr grandad served in the Civil War, my dad served in WWII, a cousin lost his life during the Korean Conflict, and several cousins served in Viet Nam.

Memorial Day is always special for our family. It's the first time our neighborhood gathers after hunkering away all winter. We all attend the local parade (right up the road) and then head to brunch. It's a great way to spend the holiday with friends and family.

  43. Great card - TFS

My grandfather fought in the Battle of the Bulge in WW2 he was one of 4 in his battalion that survived. As kids my grandmother always took us to the Memorial Day Services done by the VFW, afterwards we would place yellow roses and a flag at my grandfather's grave. After the services we would go back to my grandmas house light candles (in honor of my grandfather) and have a pot luck with the family.

Memorial Day is special to me because it reminds me of when I was young and I would go with my dad (korean war vet) to place the flags of all the veterans in our church cemetary. Spending time alone with my dad and hearing stories about all the people he knew buried in that cemetary was special

  61. This card is too cute. I love the paper you used and the ribbon with the red/white/blue theme. The stamp set is one that I have been wanting, but alas it is not quite to the top of my list yet.

Memorial Day -- means many things to me. I'm from Indianapolis, so it means the Indy 500 race, BBQs and fun with family and friends. On a more serious note it brings thoughts of all the military men and women who are serving our country and their families who support them. As a Vietnam Era Vet, this day is very special. And, I also remember this time of the year because my Mother passed away on Memorial Day 16 years ago -- this day is a happy day and a sad day for me.

Memorial Day is a chance to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in order to keep our country safe and to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. OWH gives us the chance to frequently keep in mind those who are currently serving and sacrificing time away from their families.

As I grow older, Memorial Day means more to me. When I was younger it meant participating in our parade we have in our little town. Now it's a day to stop, step back and think of all the brave men and women who have given their lives to protect our country and others.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Adorable card, Jen! I haven't tried that glitter tape yet but you have me curious. I'll have to give it the thorough scratch test!

  69. Love the card, esp. the font for the sentiment.
I remember Memorial Day parades in my home town, with my parents' generation being WWII vets. My schoolmates and relatives served in Viet Nam, and the next generation in the Middle East.Several of my family members are retired military. My youngest brother is former Army Airborne, and currently a civilian K9(bomb)handler in A'stan. Making cards for deployed troops is my small way of supporting them and saying thanks for their service.
